YYC Pizza Week – September 25 to October 4, 2015

Last week I told you about an e-cookbook that was put together by a group of us using beloved family recipes called Home for Dinner.  This is our way to raise money for the UNHCR Canada (United Nations High Commission for Refugees).  If you haven’t had a chance yet to buy your $5 copy I encourage you to click on this link.  I love my copy and there are several recipes I am excited to try.

This week I want to talk about YYC Pizza Week.  This year I have been helping out on the planning committee so this event, that I already love, is even closer to my heart.  It runs from September 25 to October 4 and this is how it works.

Just over 40 restaurants from around Calgary create one special pizza to compete against the other restaurants in town.  This year we have four categories, Thin Crust, Thick Crust, Unique and Gluten-free.  Starting September 25 the participating restaurants sell and promote their pizzas.  And this is the best part, $3 of each YYC Pizza Week pizza sold goes to support Calgary Meals on Wheels.

It really is a win win getting to try all the different pizzas because there are so many great creations.  Last year, with the help of some friends, I got to eat seven of the pizzas.  This year here are some of the creations I am looking forward to trying.

There are so many great pizzas so swing on by the YYC Pizza Week website to start making your plan.  Then head on over to a restaurant starting September 25 and give them a try.  Pick up a YYC Pizza Week passport and start collecting pizzas and then vote for your favourite.

Also, there will be lots of other activities like the Food Bloggers Pizza Competition, a Gluten-free Pizza Crawl and lots more.  Make sure you are following YYC Pizza Week on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and even Periscope to keep up with everything.  And don’t forget to check out the website as we are updating it daily.

Have fun getting out there eating pizza and raising money for Calgary Meals on Wheels, I know I sure will.

  1. Hi Heather — I just found your blog through FBC, so I thought I’d pop over and say Hi! It’s nice to connect with a fellow Calgary based food blogger. And now I’m craving pizza — ‘ve got my eye on the Truffled Pighead Mortadella Fugazza, that sounds right up my alley! Have a great weekend! 🙂

    • Justine! Hello! Thanks for stopping by. There are so many of us Calgary bloggers and I love it. Maybe one day we can find each other and go for pizza. I had the Fugazza last night and highly recommend it. Charbar is so good.
